Handsome, but did not have a lot of selections that are in my supermarket
The book is wonderful to look at, but was missing most of the varieties that are available in my supermarket with the names they are sold by. I enjoyed it very much, but I still wonder about many melons that are not easily found in the book. I am a gardenere and a consumer, and wanted to know about growing and eating and still do.
Disappointing
I love reading about and growing heirloom plants. They're truly fascinating, beautiful, and tasty. I bought this book expecting a real feast for the eyes and mind, but the photos were way too dark! It's a shame that the sole unique feature and main reason to purchase was executed so carelessly. This might not bother anyone else but I was quite disgusted.
There are a few interesting bits of history here and there but author has an amazingly regrettable habit of throwing out trendy French words without explaining what they mean. There were moments when I couldn't decide what the author was more passionate about, informing the public at large about rare and beautiful melons or trying to look good. Total poseur.
All in all I feel very strongly that I wasted my money on a poor product and wouldn't recommend it.
Coffee Table book for Melons!
The pictures make this a coffee table book for melons. They are beautiful. Not a "how to" garden book, but still enjoyable to read.
