Terrific! One of my favorite books!

This is an excellent book - for amateur or expert - on how to grow, prune, breed, and generally care for grapes of all kinds on a small or large scale. But it's much more than that. The Grape Grower is the culmination of Lon Rombough's remarkable life's work with grapes. You can feel his love for the subject on every page. It is a surprisingly easy read, given that fact that he doesn't shortchange you on the science behind grape growing.

The book is not just an instruction manual but is chock-full of stories, observations, commentaries, grape lore, histories of grape people, and just interesting tidbits from the history of viticulture. The author gives you clear-cut instructions on the practical aspects of the subject, but throughout the book we get to hear about some of his many experiences and the array of experts he's met in the world of grapes.

For anyone who loves to put his hands in dirt and make things grow, this is an author who understands your passion and will help you become a much better grape grower.

What needs to be done and how to do it

This is a good resource book on growing grapes, no frills, and very practical. It tells the reader what needs to be done and how to do it. All types of grapes are shown here as well as specifics on planting and picking the delectable fruit. The concepts and methods found in this book are carefully researched, particularly the pruning and vineyard construction sections. The author even presents various examples of methods, including the advantage and disadvantage of each method or system. However, the author's preference is organic methods, as the title clearly suggests. Still, he manages to give numerous solutions on grape growing problems. The book is also easy to read.
