Review #1

Somewhat helpful

The book is very helpful with the theory of wall building. It lacks somewhat in specifics, and is also a bit dated. I was surprised it did not mention or deal with flagstone.

One positive benefit is in gaining some insight into the importance of placing stones so they interconnect and solidify, so as to create a unit. I was hoping for something that dealt more with mortared walls.

Review #2

Informative and enjoyable

We've been thinking about acquiring some stone and building a retaining wall, but weren't sure what kind of rock to use, where to find it, how to start, and the right way to go about setting the stones.
This little handbook answered almost all of our questions. Descriptions and instructions are clear and easy to understand. Appreciated the historical references.
Maybe the best attribute of the book is that it is so enjoyable to read. I really liked the author's "story-telling" style. I think we'll hold onto this book long after our rock wall is built.

Review #3

A KEEPER!

I found this book to be much more than I expected!
The author gave me the technical information I was looking for PLUS HISTORICAL information that gave me plenty of reason to add it to my collection of "eclectic books of antique info"
