Great for moderate beginners
I ordered this book after learning a few basic stiches and making a few moderately difficult projects with help from an instructor. I give this book a great rating because it has given me an abundance of ideas for various projects. However there are a few drawbacks: one is the illustrations of creating a stitch aren't quite clear (in any book for that matter) and a beginner may need someone to actually demonstrate a stitch in order to fully understand the descriptions and illustrations; secondly, some of the abbreviations do not seem universal to other pattern books I have, thus causing confusion. On the other hand though, some of the other explanations and illustrations are easy to understand. Overall, I think it's a great book; I highly recommend it.
Waste of Money
The Harmony Guides are great knitting pattern books. Unfortunately, the content of Volume 2 is identical to Volume 1, which I already owned.
Excellent Resource
My mom purchased this book a while ago, and I found myself referring to it when I was home so much that I would often call her when I was away at school to have her read me some of the patterns. When I saw it recommended on Amazon, I decided it was worth the $12 to just buy my own copy! It has great stitch pattern, decent photography, and even a section on edgings at the end. All in all, a solid stitch dictionary!
